Today, I’m linking up with Leigh Kramer sharing a bit of my non-food/ag life with you all. And between the holiday weekend and hosting a belated housewarming party, there’s been a lull in the food/ag stories. More good stuff is coming next week!
What I’m Reading
In May, I finished Bringing Up Bebé (because I like the style of the book, not because I’m pregnant), The Kitchen Counter Cooking School and Hope Heals. Fortunate for me, they were all worth the time and effort.
I’m currently reading:
The Supper of the Lamb by Robert Farrar Capon. An unusual, beautiful (and at times humorous and quirky) reflection on the theology of cooking and food.
Bittersweet by Shauna Niequist. I miss the food-centricty and sharper writing found in Bread and Wine, but still worthwhile if you enjoy her work.
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by J.K. Rowling (via audiobook). Yes, I know I’m years late to the Harry Potter craze, but it’s been love at first listen! Jim Dale’s narration is splendid, and I think this book may be my favorite yet.
What I’m Watching
I stuck out The Blacklist through the season finale. The show has lost the pizazz of the first two seasons, but we’re hoping the fourth season will be stronger due to S3’s final surprises.
Like many, I wept through the last episode of Call the Midwife and sighed happy at the ending of Mr. Selfridge.
Mike and I are currently watching The West Wing and are big fans. It’s the type of show that makes you proud to be an American.
What I’m Loving
Drinks on our front porch. We had our neighbors down on Sunday for drinks and catching up and before we knew it, it was close to midnight!
Cold brew coffee. I was recently reminded that if I’m going to drink cold coffee, it better be cold brew. I have some brewing on my kitchen counter as I type.
Our rearranged first floor. Frustrated by our lack of seating when friends entered our back door, Mike and I switched our dining room with our living room and haven’t looked back.
This Spotify playlist I made for the summer. I’m admittedly not much of a music person, but I put together some of my favorites to listen to while cooking, relaxing, and well, enjoying our front porch.
What I’m Making
Ruby red sangria from Modern Mrs. Darcy. The perfect easy wine punch for summer.
Roasted carrots with vinaigrette from Pioneer Woman. Cooked carrots were never a favorite, until I tried these. They’re especially good at room temperature!
At Purdue to celebrate my baby brother’s graduation ••• may or may not have teared up while drinking@greyhousecoffee and walking on campus ••• places become woven with our identity, for the good or bad. And I couldn’t be more thankful for this place ••• #evergrateful#boilerup #hailpurdue #purduealumni
