Today, I’m linking up with Leigh Kramer sharing a bit of my non-food/ag life with you all.
WHAT I’M READING
In June, I finished Water Like a Stone (#11 in the Kincaid/James series), Cinder and The Supper of the Lamb.
I’m currently reading:
When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi. Poignant and gripping.
You are What You Love by James K.A. Smith. Looking forward to getting more in-depth to the reading.
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by J.K. Rowling (now via physical book). Listening to Harry Potter once you get to this point in the series takes ages. I decided to pick up a copy at the library, and started reading
Well-Fed 2 by Mel Joulwan. I’m doing a modified Whole 30 right now, and this has been the best book to read and cook through.
WHAT I’M WATCHING
I watched Dr. Thorne (Julian Fellowes’s new drama on Amazon) and felt pretty “eh” about it, but worth it because of the cast.
At a friend’s suggestion, I started Poldark. So far, quite promising. Ruby Bentall played one of my favorite characters in “Lark Rise to Candleford” and so far, she’s shining in Poldark.
Endeavour on Masterpiece Mystery is off to a slow start, but also promising. It’s worth watching just because of Alan Cumming’s intro to the season.
We’re still plugging away on The West Wing. The end of season one? We couldn’t stop watching!
WHAT I’M LOVING
The Pantsuit Politics Podcast. Nothing makes me feel quite so adult like meeting with a financial planner, having more than half a tank of gas in my car, drinking my coffee black and listening to a political podcast. I started with this election reform episode and was immediately smitten.
Christie Purifoy on The Simple Show. I will be re-listening to this episode soon to glean Purifoy’s wisdom on “placemaking.” Her observation on the relationship between changing seasons and travel was a huge “aha” moment for me.
Black Tea. I’ve always been a fan of tea, but as I’m doing a modified Whole 30, I’ve started taking my tea black. To my surprise, I love it.
WHAT I’M MAKING & EATING
Almond Butter. Almond butter is a new-to-me food (longtime peanut butter fan, right here!), but has recently become a beloved necessity for Whole 30.
Chilled Cooked Carrots with Tahini Dressing. Savory, sweet and rich.
Zoodles with Basil Avocado Sauce. I thought the combo sounded crazy, then a friend made it for me. Divine!
“If you try to seize the day, the day will eventually break you. Seize the corner of [Christ’s] garment and don’t let go until he blesses you. He will reshape the day.” (Paul Miller) ••• words needed for my day, and maybe yours too.
