On this episode of Our Midwestern Life, I’m talking with Nathan Nieuwendorp about life as a pig farmer. Nathan is a lifelong Midwesterner and makes his home in Iowa with his family. As he explains in today’s show, his farm is what would be considered a “factory farm.” And that’s exactly why I was thrilled to have him on the show.
I wanted to have Nathan on the show to hear what life on his farm is really like. We talk about biosecurity concerns and antibiotic use. We talk about sustainability. We talk about the lack of pigs and pig farmers in pop culture. We talk about a couple of those buzzwords you hear when it comes to livestock farming and meat at your grocery store. We also talk a bit about our shared Christian faith and how that shapes our perspective on and Nathan’s practice of farming.
